Senior Software Engineer

Ottawa-based hybrid role (2-3 days in our office):

We are looking for a passionate software engineer to join a team building our global-scale cloud-native microservices platform. We are developing our products and solutions for our existing customers on-prem and also for cloud delivery. We are investing heavily in our new Cloud-based SNOW Atlas platform and Products deployed on Microsoft Azure. This role is Ottawa-based hybrid role (2-3 days in our office).

We believe in the DevOps culture (please note this is not a DevOps role), where high collaboration is key in an environment where all team members have shared responsibility for our software's development, maintenance, and operations.

We use a multi-cloud strategy where the software stack is built with a mix of programming languages such as C#.NET Core.

The platform relies on technologies that can be deployed on any cloud provider such as Azure, AWS, and GCP and also on-premise for our enterprise customers. Examples of technologies that are being used are Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, and SumoLogic.

The team focuses heavily on the accountability and quality aspects of the development cycle where the developer of each service is responsible for ensuring that relevant monitoring, alerting and logging capabilities are built into the service and that automated test suites are continuously updated. Furthermore, each developer is responsible for acting on issues that arise in the production, staging, and development environments.

Qualifications

As a successful candidate, you will be an open-minded experienced software engineer, who is tech-savvy and passionate about technology. You will have good knowledge and experience in software architecture, design, implementation, and deployment and be experienced in building and maintaining large-scale SaaS solutions.

Your strong knowledge in .NET Core and willingness to learn new technologies and programming languages will ensure your success.

Must have skills and experience:

  • Developing in major languages such as C#, and in .Net Core and .Net 4
  • Developing front end UI in languages such as ReactJS
  • You drive improvements in multiple product areas; understand and improve technologies and ensuring that design decisions lead to long term maintainability and extensibility of the product
  • Align with and contribute to the team architectural strategy
  • Champion process and technical standards, mentor more junior employees
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements analysis, feature design, and architectural design.
  • Excellent understanding of Agile development methodologies and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes.
  • Able to balance delivery timing, project scope, and technical debt.

Even better if:

  • Understanding of non-functional requirements such as security, performance, usability, and maintainability.
  • You have experience working with Java and and GO (Golang).
  • You understand and validate requirements in context of the value that the product provides to customers - challenge when there is a better way to meet customer needs
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and technical leadership of large implementation efforts
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in modern software development
